Raising long pending issues related to service security, salary benefits and departmental status, members of the Computer Teacher Union from across Punjab gathered in Jalandhar on Sunday for a state level convention, where teachers warned of intensified protests if their demands were not addressed soon by the Punjab government.
The convention witnessed discussion on issues concerning their service conditions, implementation of pay benefits and lack of departmental clarity. Union leaders alleged that despite years of service in government schools, Computer Teachers continue to face uncertainty regarding their status and benefits.
During the convention, teachers demanded their immediate merger into the Education Department, stating that they should be provided the same facilities, service security and benefits as other teaching staff working under the department.
Union representatives said the delay in granting departmental status has created administrative and financial difficulties for thousands of teachers across the state.
Another major issue raised during the gathering was the pending implementation of benefits under the 6th Pay Commission. Teachers alleged that arrears and revised salary benefits have not been released despite repeated representations to the government.
The teachers also reiterated their demand for clear and uniform service rules for Computer Teachers. According to union leaders, the absence of proper service regulations has led to confusion regarding promotions, transfers and long-term job security. Addressing the gathering, union leaders said Computer Teachers had continuously contributed to strengthening digital education in government schools and therefore deserved equal treatment within the education system.
Pawan Sharma, senior leader of the union in Jalandhar said, “Even after a series of protests, the state government has failed to take cognisance of our long pending demands. Therefore, the union has decided to intensify its agitation and protest during election rallies of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and other AAP leaders in the coming days if our issues continue to be ignored."
