In a major setback to the Congress, Sadhaura MLA Renu Bala’s husband Rishi Pal on Friday left the party to join the BJP in the presence of Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini at a programme in Vyaspur town of Yamunanagar district.
“By joining the party, former Congress leader and Engineer Rishi Pal has expressed faith in the policies and developmental works of BJP,” said CM Saini.
Renu Bala is a Congress MLA from the reserved Sadhaura Assembly constituency in Yamunanagar. She, along with four other MLAs, was suspended by Congress party in April for cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha elections. She launched her political career by winning the Zila Parishad election as an independent candidate. Later, she joined BJP and became the chairperson of the Zila Parishad. She then joined the Congress and won two consecutive terms as an MLA from the Sadhaura Assembly constituency.
Her husband Rishi Pal is an influential political leader in Sadhaura and his entry into BJP was marked by intensified political activity in this area. On the occasion, based on the demand letter submitted by Rishi Pal, CM Saini announced a special amount of Rs 5 crore to carry out development works in Sadhaura area and promised there would be no shortage of funds for the area’s development.
“The state government has lived up to its election promises and given appointment letters to 25,000 youth after being elected to power for a second term," said Saini. Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana, MLA Ghanshyam Dass Arora, Yamunanagar Mayor Suman Bahamani, DC Preeti, SP Kamaldeep Goyal, BJP District President Rajesh Sapra, former Cabinet Minister Kanwarpal Gujjar and former MLA Balwant Singh were present on the occasion.
