The Congress has further strengthened its position in the Jwalamukhi Municipal Council on Tuesday after its councillors unanimously elected Somkiran as president and Deepti Sood as vice-president.
The development comes close on the heels of the party’s impressive performance in the recently concluded civic body elections, where the Congress won seven out of the nine seats in the council.
The selection of the two office-bearers is being viewed as a major political achievement for the Congress and a reflection of its growing influence in the constituency. The party’s success has been largely attributed to the leadership of local MLA Sanjay Rattan, who spearheaded the election campaign and mobilized support across the municipal wards.
Congress leaders and supporters described the outcome as a clear endorsement of the party’s policies and leadership at the grassroots level. They said the results demonstrated the confidence reposed by the people of Jwalamukhi in the Congress despite strong opposition from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
According to local leaders, the party managed to maintain unity among its elected councillors, resulting in the unanimous selection of the president and vice-president without any contest.
Political observers noted that the municipal council results have further consolidated the position of Congress in Jwalamukhi and are likely to boost the morale of party workers ahead of future electoral battles. The outcome is also being seen as a significant setback for the BJP, which had made considerable efforts to improve its performance in civic polls but failed to prevent the Congress from securing a commanding majority.
With the new leadership now in place, residents are expecting the municipal council to focus on development, improved public services, sanitation, infrastructure and other local issues.
Both Somkiran and Sood have assured citizens that they will work collectively for overall development of Jwalamukhi.
