Congress state president Rao Narendra Singh alleged that lakhs of voter names were being deleted in various states on the pretext of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

He said that the process of SIR has also begun in Haryana, but the Congress would not allow the deletion of genuine voter names on the basis of religion or caste under the guise of SIR.

“The Congress believes in the Constitution and democracy. It never wants any wrongdoing to happen. We support the deletion of names of voters who have died or have duplicate entries. But our party will not allow the deletion of genuine votes,” said Rao Narendra Singh while speaking to reporters after holding a state-level Congress monthly review meeting at Gymkhana Club in Yamunanagar on Friday. District presidents from all districts of the state were present at the meeting.

The Congress state president alleged that BJP misused government machinery to win the civic body elections.

“The public wanted the Congress to win. People are saying that they voted for Congress, but they don’t know how BJP won by such a large margin. Unless votes are cast through ballot papers, justice cannot be expected,” alleged Rao Narendra Singh.

He said that BJP had “gifted” the public an electoral victory by increasing petrol prices.

“The Congress will hold protests at all district headquarters in the state on May 18, 19, and 20 and submit memoranda to Deputy Commissioners,” said Singh. He added that during the meeting, Congress workers and leaders had resolved to strengthen the party.

“Almost all district executive committees of the Congress have been formed in the state. Block-level executive committees are expected to be formed in May. Thereafter, mandal-level and booth-level committees are planned to be formed in rural areas and ward-level committees in urban areas,” said Rao.

During the meeting, Singh spoke one-on-one with all the district presidents and assessed their progress reports regarding the organisation.

The meeting was attended by Jagadhri MLA Chaudhary Akram Khan, party’s district rural president Narpal Singh Gurjar, district urban president Devendra Singh, and other party leaders.
