Conservatives lose control of Hampshire County Council after nearly 30 years

• The Conservatives have lost control of Hampshire County Council after nearly 30 years, which now has no overall majority.
• With 77 of 78 seats counted, the Conservatives have won 27, with the Lib Dems winning 26 and Reform UK 19.
• This means no party has reached the 40 seats needed for a majority and a party will either have to form a minority administration or enter a coalition with another party.
• Around the UK, Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party has seen a surge in support, winning more than 300 seats.
• Sir Keir Starmer says he is “hurt” but will carry on as prime minister after Labour lost hundreds of councillor seats, along with control of at least eight councils, in the local elections.
