Construction worker dies trapped in Kuala Nerus house fire

A 49-year-old construction worker perished in a house fire in Kampung Tanjung, Kuala Nerus, with the cause and losses still under investigation.

KUALA NERUS: A construction worker died after being trapped in a house fire in Kampung Tanjung.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said police were alerted to the blaze near Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanjung Gelam at 7.30 pm.

Police found the house completely destroyed upon arrival, with a 49-year-old man believed trapped inside.

A fire and rescue operation involved 21 personnel from the Kuala Terengganu Fire and Rescue Station.

The victim’s body, identified as Shafie Awang Abd Rahman, was found at the front of the house.

It was sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital Forensic Unit for further action.

Azli said the cause of the fire and total losses are still under investigation by the fire department.
