A contractor has been instructed to repair a newly built covered walkway near the Kunak Hospital roundabout after its structure was found leaning, raising concerns over potential collapse and danger to pedestrians and motorists.
Kunak District Council Executive Officer, Mohd Nazri Pintal, said they had previously warned the contractor about the structural risks and instructed immediate action.
As a temporary measure, the contractor has tied some of the walkway’s support pillars to the hospital fence using nylon ropes to prevent further tilting.
"The contractor has been ordered to fix any weak structures. They are aware of the issue and will begin repairs today (Tuesday)," Nazri told Daily Express.
Reports indicate that many of the walkway’s support pillars were not sturdy, causing the structure to lean dangerously.
The issue gained public attention after images of the walkway went viral on the Orang Kunak Facebook community page.
The covered walkway was completed just two months ago.
