MANILA, Philippines — Converge acquired mercurial forward Calvin Abueva from Titan Ultra in a stunning move as the FiberXers shipped out King Caralipio, Mark Omega and Rey Suerte in a trade to the Giant Risers on Tuesday.
The PBA Commissioner's Office already approved the deal.
The “Beast”, who is turning 38 on Wednesday, is coming off a solid performance for new team Titan Ultra in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup, where San Miguel Beer recently defended its crown successfully.
The energetic forward out of San Sebastian averaged awe-inspiring numbers of 23.60 points, 11.90 rebounds and 3.60 assists on the way to contending for the Best Player of the Conference.
Abueva would lose the BPC plum to SMB star June Mar Fajardo, who won a record-setting fifth award.
The deal reunites Abueva with his long-time patron Delta Pineda, whose team blew a twice-to-beat advantage after bowing to Barangay Ginebra in the Philippine Cup quarterfinals.
