The district police have maintained that Head Constable Krishan Kumar, who was reported to have died in a road accident, was actually murdered by his nephew and other family members.

Haryana Police EHC Krishan Kumar had died under mysterious circumstances last month. His death was reported to have taken place in a road accident.

However, police investigation has indicated that Krishan was murdered by his relatives who later cooked up the road accident story to mislead the investigators.

As per an official statement issued on Monday, the team of Jatusana police station in Rewari district claims to have cracked the case of death of EHC Krishna Kumar and termed it a premeditated murder.

The police have invoked the section of murder in the case and have arrested the prime suspect, Jatin Kumar, who is a resident of Nainsukhpura village and son of Krishan’s cousin.

Jatin was produced before a local court, which sent him on a two-day police remand.

The police investigators said Krishan Kumar, a resident of Nainsukhpura village, was employed as an EHC in the Haryana Police and was currently living in Rewari.

On May 11, the police received information that he had been injured in a road accident and later died at a hospital.

Suman, a resident of Nainsukhpura village, told the police that on the night of May 10, she had a fight with her husband Manoj, following which she called Krishan for help.

Suman stated that Krishan was injured when he arrived.

“Later, while returning from the police station after filing a complaint, Krishan Kumar stopped to urinate on the roadside and was hit by an unknown motorcycle," she claimed.

Krishan’s relatives said he was taken to a hospital on the next day as his condition deteriorated. However, he could not be saved.

The police registered a case of accidental death at the Jatusana police station and began the investigation.

However, the case took a new turn as the post-mortem report of the deceased stated that he had suffered approximately 15 severe injuries and had been stabbed with a sharp object.

Following that, Krishan’s mother Santosh Devi lodged a statement with the police, in which she accused Suman and her family of having murdered her son.

On the basis of scientific evidence of the post-mortem report and the statement of Santosh Devi, the Jatusana police added the section of murder in the case.

The police arrested the main accused in the case, Jatin Kumar, on Sunday. The accused was produced before a local court and taken on two-day police remand.

“This is a very sensitive case in which a policeman was murdered and an attempt was made to pass it off as an accident. The main accused, Jatin, has been taken on remand and is being thoroughly interrogated. Police teams are continuously conducting raids to recover the weapon used in the murder and arrest the other accused, including Suman, Sher Singh and Manoj. No culprit will be spared," said the police statement.
