The Delhi Police have registered two FIRs after a group of individuals allegedly entered the Shakarpur police station, obstructed an Investigating Officer from performing his duties, and assaulted members of a road accident victim’s family.
The action follows an incident that took place on May 30. ASI Narender Kumar was carrying out legal proceedings in connection with a road accident case involving an injured person, Akshat Tyagi, and the accused driver, identified as Farman.
According to the police, several persons claiming to be advocates entered the police station during the registration of the FIR, and allegedly attempted to pressure the Investigating Officer not to take legal action against the accused. The individuals allegedly used abusive language and threatened the officer.
The police further alleged that members of the group assaulted the injured person’s father, Baleshwar Tyagi, and his relatives inside the police station premises. When the Investigating Officer intervened to maintain order, he was allegedly pushed, abused, and obstructed from carrying out official duties.
Despite the alleged obstruction, the police completed legal formalities and registered an FIR in the road accident case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused driver was subsequently arrested.
Based on a complaint lodged by the ASI, a separate FIR was registered at the Laxmi Nagar police station under various sections of the BNS related to obstruction of a public servant in discharge of duty, intimidation, and allied offences.
Another FIR was registered on the complaint of Baleshwar Tyagi, alleging assault, criminal intimidation and misbehaviour with him and his relatives.
A video purportedly showing individuals threatening and abusing the Investigating Officer inside the police station has also surfaced on social media.
The police said further investigation into both cases was underway.
