United Nations climate talks in Brazil have reached a subdued agreement to provide more funding to countries hit hardest by climate change to help them adapt to extreme weather. But the deal does not include a detailed roadmap to phase out fossil fuels or to strengthen inadequate emissions-cutting plans.

The Brazilian presidency said it would eventually draw up a roadmap to move away from fossil fuels in cooperation with hardline Colombia, but it would not carry the same weight as one approved at the United Nations’ COP30 summit.

This is a developing story.
