The Delhi Police have cracked a sensational highway dacoity and kidnapping case within hours of the incident, arresting four accused and apprehending two juveniles involved in the crime. The police also recovered the robbed motorcycle, victim’s mobile phone and the car used in the offence.

The accused have been identified as Ankit (24), a resident of Farmana village in Sonipat, Haryana; Harsh (21), a resident of Nangal Thakran in Delhi; Sudhir (28), also from Farmana village; and Sanket (19), another resident of Farmana village. Two juveniles, both aged 17 and residents of Sonipat, were also apprehended.

The incident took place on the intervening night of May 26 and 27 near Choti Metro Cut on UER-II at Holambi Khurd in outer north Delhi.

According to the police, the victim, Abhinav Tripathi, a resident of Holambi Khurd who works at Shahbad Dairy, was returning home on his motorcycle when a white car intercepted him from behind. Four occupants allegedly stepped out of the vehicle, overpowered him, and forcibly dragged him into the car.

The police said the accused assaulted the victim inside the moving vehicle, robbed him of his mobile phone and fled with his motorcycle. The victim was later dumped near Hanuman Mandir in Narela before the accused escaped.

Following a PCR call made by the victim’s brother, Anirudh Tripathi, a team from the Narela Industrial Area police station rushed to the spot. A case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered.

The police launched an intensive search operation and analysed CCTV footage from multiple escape routes. Using technical surveillance, local intelligence inputs and field operations, the team managed to track down and apprehend all six accused within hours.

The police said Ankit was previously involved in a criminal case in Haryana, while Harsh had earlier been booked under the Arms Act in Delhi.

The four accused have been taken into police custody, while the two juveniles were sent to an observation home.

The police said further investigation is underway.
