PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating a Facebook user by the name of “Muhamad Harun” over an allegedly defamatory post targeting the force.

Bera police chief Zulkiflee Nazir said the user had left a post on a Facebook page titled “Bera Unite” on March 29, accusing members of the motorcycle patrol unit (URB) of not taking action against two Chinese individuals riding their motorcycles without helmets.

“He claimed that the officers however stopped two Malay riders and forced them to push their motorcycles to the police station.

“The post also asked whether the law is only enforced against the Malay community and claimed that such incidents frequently occur in Triang,” Zulkiflee said, as reported by Sinar Harian.

He said that the post was an attempt to tarnish the image of the police force, particularly the Bera police headquarters.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

On March 30, Zulkiflee issued a statement urging the Facebook user to present himself at the Bera police headquarters or any nearby police station to provide his statement and assist in the investigation into the post.

He also urged members of the public with information on the Facebook account to come forward by contacting the investigating officer, Zulhilmi Ishak, at 014-2250306 or by visiting the nearest police station.
