Coronation Street icon Charles Lawson has spoken out after his character, Jim McDonald, died on Monday’s (2 March) episode, 37 years after he first joined the show.

The actor first appeared in the long-running soap opera from 1989 to 2000, then returned several times between 2003 and 2018.

Lawson sent a message to fans following his exit, saying: “For all you people who supported me and the character over the years here, all the very best. We had a great run, and I'm very, very proud of the character we created. Cheerio.”
