THE Coroner's Court in Kota Kinabalu has set September 11 to visit the location Zara Qairina Mahathir was found unconscious, near the drain of a religious school dormitory in Papar, Sabah at around 4am on July 16.
The matter was decided by Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan after a hearing on the application of interested parties made this morning at the Coroner's Court.
The visit will involve the Coroner, interested parties, observers and relevant witnesses to make identifications at the scene of the incident.
Earlier, the Coroner allowed four interested parties and two observers to be involved in the proceedings which will take place at 2pm this afternoon.
The interested parties involved consist of the lawyer for Zara Qairina Mahathir's biological father, Mahathir Hashim @ Marikin, 44, represented by lawyers Sherzali Herza Asli, Nur Rafeeqa Afdul Mutalib and Clarice Vyonne Conrad.
Other interested parties are Zara's mother's lawyer, Noraidah Lamat, represented by Shahlan Jufri and Rizwandean M Borhan who were also present today.
In addition, two other interested parties also involve lawyers Datuk Ram Singh and Joan Goh who were also present today representing one of the accused teenagers involved in the Zara Qairina bullying case.
The fourth interested party is lawyer Azhier Farhan Arisin together with Abdul Fikry Jaafar Abdullah who are representing four other teenagers.
Meanwhile, other observers allowed to follow the inquest proceedings are the Sabah Law Society (SLS) represented by Jamadi Saleh and the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM), Dr. Norahimah Fitri.
On August 13, the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) ordered that the inquest proceedings be conducted after examining the investigation report submitted by the police.
Earlier, on August 8, the AGC announced that Zara Qairina's grave would need to be re-exhumed to allow for post-mortem procedures to be carried out on the teenager's remains.
Zara's death has sparked widespread public solidarity, with calls from state leaders, activists and non-governmental organisations for a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served. – September 3, 2025
