KOTA KINABALU: Warisan Vice President Datuk Junz Wong (pic) has criticised the state government’s plan to corporatise the Sabah Water Department, calling it an admission of failure by the GRS-PH administration to resolve long-standing water problems.

He said Warisan’s stand remains clear, with the party committed to protecting the interests of Sabahans and local businesses rather than serving political or corporate agendas.

Wong warned that corporatisation would likely push water tariffs up, adding to cost-of-living pressures, and cautioned that higher bills would not guarantee better services.

He also questioned the billions already spent on water projects under the government, saying the failures showed irresponsible governance and raised doubts over the security of Water Department staff under private control.

The Tanjung Aru assemblyman reminded that during Warisan’s time in office, assets were repaired rather than sold off, urging the present government to provide people-focused solutions instead of treating privatisation as an escape route.
