THE corruption involving high-ranking officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) is very serious and large-scale.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the alleged perpetrators involved the highest-ranking people in the defence industry.

“Try to imagine how big the problem is based on the ranks of those involved. It is indeed huge,” he said as reported by BuletinTV3.

On extending the remand of the former Army Chief and his two wives, who were detained by the MACC, Azam said it depends on the needs of the investigation.

“I cannot confirm the matter at this time because there is still a day left. I need to check with the investigating officer.

“We have a maximum period of 14 days of remand. If tomorrow is seven days and the investigation requires additional time, we will apply for an extension of the remand,” he said. – January 13, 2026
