CORRUPTION has emerged as the top issue Filipinos want President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to address, overtaking economic concerns, according to the latest Pahayag survey released on Wednesday.
The nationwide survey found that 29 percent of registered voters identified corruption as the administration’s most urgent priority, making it the highest-rated concern by a wide margin.
Economic issues followed, with 7 percent citing the state of the Philippine economy, while 6 percent pointed to poverty, prices and inflation. Education, wages, employment, public health care, and peace and order each received 4 percent, while illegal drugs and rising fuel prices were each cited by three percent of respondents.
The survey also showed that corruption remains the leading concern at the household level. Eighteen percent of respondents said witnessing corrupt practices in local government offices and public agencies is their biggest personal concern heading into the next quarter.
Economic pressures continued to weigh heavily on households, with 10 percent expressing concern over the country’s slow economic recovery. Nine percent cited rising prices and the inability to buy basic necessities, while another 9 percent said they were struggling to afford essential household needs.
