MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will not summon Chinese Ambassador to Manila Jing Quan over China Daily's AI-generated editorial depicting Filipinos as monkeys, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said.
During a press briefing on Monday, Castro was asked whether the President would heed the call of Sen. Risa Hontiveros to summon Jing amid the refusal of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to apologize for the "racist" video.
"Whatever the plans of the Senate [to address the matter], it's up to them. And that is their mandate to show our people that we condemn any attempt to belittle the Filipinos," Castro said in Filipino.
"But the President would not summon the Chinese Ambassador. [Foreign Affairs] Secretary [Ma. Theresa] Tess Lazaro will attend to that [matter]," she added.
