
Police arrested a couple and seized 187.5kg of ketum leaves in Kuantan, where they allegedly produced and sold 300kg of ketum water weekly for RM40 a packet.
KUANTAN: Police arrested a married couple suspected of processing and selling ketum water at a house in Kampung Bukit Rangin here on Sunday (August 16), with ketum leaves and related items seized valued at RM15,745.
Kuantan police chief ACP Ashari Abu Samah said the couple, aged 52 and 62, were arrested during a raid at about 4 pm following information from the public.
“Police also seized 1,150 transparent plastic packets containing 187.5 kilograms (kg) of ketum leaves, as well as various items believed to have been used to produce ketum water,” he said in a statement yesterday (August 17).
Ashari said investigations found that the couple had been producing and selling an estimated 300 kg of ketum water a week at RM40 per 250-gramme packet, with the operation believed to have been running for more than a month.
Both suspects will be remanded for four days under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
