A 50-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after a husband and wife were allegedly attacked with an irritant spray in broad daylight outside a restaurant in Seremban 2, leaving both victims suffering eye irritation and prompting a police investigation into the motive behind the incident.
Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yatim Osman said the incident occurred at approximately 6pm on Sunday near Garden Avenue in Seremban 2.
According to preliminary investigations, the female victim and her husband were travelling in a Perodua Bezza when they noticed a Honda Accord following their vehicle.
"When the victim and her husband were in front of Family Store Seremban 2 in their Perodua Bezza, the victim noticed a Honda Accord following them.
"Upon arriving in front of a Chinese restaurant, the suspect allegedly suddenly blocked the victims' vehicle from the front before an unidentified man exited the Honda Accord and attempted to provoke them," he said in a statement.
Mohd Yatim said the suspect then allegedly opened the rear door of his vehicle and retrieved an unidentified object before confronting the couple.
"The man is believed to have then sprayed an irritant substance towards the victim and her husband.
"The woman also managed to record the incident and claimed she did not know why the man had acted in such a manner towards her and her husband," he said.
The victims later reported experiencing pain, irritation and itching in their eyes as a result of exposure to the substance before lodging a police report.
The incident triggered an immediate investigation by officers from the Seremban District Criminal Investigation Division, who subsequently tracked down and arrested the suspect.
"Following the report, a team from the Seremban District Criminal Investigation Division arrested the suspect in front of his house in this district at approximately 11.45pm last night.
"The case has been classified under Section 324 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act. An application for a remand order was made this morning," he said.
Police have not disclosed a possible motive for the attack and investigations remain ongoing. - June 2, 2026
