Former chief of Defence Forces Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar maintained that the legal action taken against him would not weaken the Malaysian Armed Forces, stressing that the institution remains resilient and capable of enduring challenges, following his court appearance on 23 January 2026.

Speaking to reporters outside the Kuala Lumpur High Court Complex after being charged earlier the same day, Mohd Nizam urged that the judicial process be allowed to proceed without interference, expressing confidence that the case would not destabilise the military. He conveyed the view that the Armed Forces, with a history spanning more than nine decades, had weathered numerous trials and would continue to stand firm despite current developments.

He also called on the public to give the military space to conduct its own internal assessments, suggesting that the institution should be allowed to review the situation independently and determine any necessary actions through its established processes.

His legal counsel, Abdul Aziz Hamzah, indicated that the defence would respond to the allegations in due course, stating that the legal team would address the substance of the charges through the appropriate legal channels. He confirmed that the court had scheduled 31 March 2026 for case management, setting the stage for the next phase of proceedings.

When asked about the expected duration of the trial, the defence declined to offer any estimates, noting that timelines would depend on various procedural and logistical factors, including court schedules and the progress of other cases.

Questions regarding Mohd Nizam’s health were also raised following his court appearance. However, his lawyer declined to comment, describing the matter as private and stating that no details would be disclosed. During earlier court proceedings, the defence had made reference to health-related issues, though no specifics were provided publicly.
