A local court has denied bail to all four Haryana residents who assaulted an HRTC driver on Sunday during a road rage incident near Shimla.
Providing details, ASP, Shimla, Abhishek Dhiman said the police had arrested all four accused — Pratibha, Pankaj, Vikas Kumar, and Vicky Kumar, who hail from Abheypur village in Panchkula, Haryana — the same day and initiated an investigation.
Following their arrest, the accused were produced in court and remanded to police custody. They later applied for bail, but the court rejected their plea based on the facts and submissions presented by the district police.
At present, all the accused are in judicial custody, Dhiman added.
On May 24, Rajinder Singh, an HRTC driver on duty on a bus en route to Rohru from New Delhi, overtook two Haryana-registered vehicles, which irked the occupants. In a fit of rage, one of the vehicles overtook the bus, forcing the driver to reduce speed. Two occupants travelling in the other vehicle then dragged the driver from the bus and assaulted him. The conductor stopped the bus by applying the handbrake, preventing a major accident.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism. After receiving information, police arrested two of the accused on the spot and launched a manhunt for the other two.
The incident enraged HRTC drivers, who demanded the immediate arrest of and stern action against all the accused. They also staged a protest in Shimla, disrupting bus services for a few hours. Meanwhile, police arrested the remaining two accused from Theog in Shimla district.
