Kota Kinabalu: The Sessions Court here on Friday cautioned the public against exploiting sensitive issues on social media before jailing an e-hailing driver for threatening communications.
Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan handed Attad Alamin, 45, a 30-day jail term and a RM10,000 fine, in default four months’ imprisonment, for posting threatening content on TikTok intended to disturb others.
He reminded that false or inflammatory postings have become rampant and disruptive, urging people to think of the consequences before hitting “enter” on their keyboards.
The judge said social media should be used to promote good and not to spread hatred, adding that the sentence should serve as a warning to the wider public.
Attad, who admitted the charge, pleaded for leniency citing his role as sole breadwinner for his wife, six children, and ailing mother, but the prosecution pressed for deterrence given the seriousness of such offences.
