In a recent operation, the Penang Immigration Department apprehended five foreign women suspected of working as guest relations officers (GROs) following a raid on an entertainment venue in the city. The operation, conducted at 10 pm, revealed that the women were entertaining clients at the time of the raid. The detained individuals included four Thai nationals and one Vietnamese national, all of whom had entered Malaysia as tourists. These women are reported to be between the ages of 20 and 30.

According to an official statement from the Penang Immigration Department, an investigation is also underway concerning the owner of the entertainment establishment. Authorities have indicated that appropriate actions will be taken if any illegal activities or regulatory violations are discovered during the investigation.

In a related operation, the department conducted a raid on a bar in Bayan Lepas, resulting in the detention of five men from Myanmar. The men, aged between 25 and 40, are suspected of working at the bar without the necessary legal documentation. The Penang Immigration Department has underscored the importance of adhering to immigration laws and regulations, emphasizing that unauthorized employment is a serious offense.

"All of those arrested have been brought to the Juru Immigration Depot for further action," the department stated, highlighting the ongoing efforts to curb illegal employment and ensure compliance with immigration laws.

These raids are part of a broader initiative by the Penang Immigration Department to crack down on illegal activities and undocumented workers in the region. The department has been actively conducting operations targeting establishments that may be employing foreign nationals without valid work permits or engaging in activities that violate their tourist visas.

The issue of foreign nationals working illegally in Malaysia has been a persistent challenge for the authorities. By stepping up enforcement efforts, the Penang Immigration Department aims to protect both the local labor market and the rights of foreign workers. Ensuring that all workers are legally documented and that their employment conditions are in accordance with Malaysian laws is a priority for the department.

In light of these recent events, the Penang Immigration Department has reiterated its commitment to upholding the law and maintaining public order. The department has also called on business owners and employers to comply with immigration regulations and to ensure that all their employees have the necessary legal documentation. Failure to do so not only undermines the integrity of the immigration system but also exposes employers to legal repercussions.

The recent raids and subsequent detentions serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by Malaysian authorities to address the complexities of immigration and labor issues. By maintaining vigilance and enforcing regulations, the Penang Immigration Department hopes to create a safer and more orderly environment for both residents and visitors in the region.

As investigations continue, the department is expected to provide updates on the status of the detainees and any further actions taken against the establishments involved. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities related to illegal employment or immigration violations to the authorities to assist in these efforts.
