During a two-day operation that commenced on July 5, a total of 54 illegal immigrants were apprehended in Kinta district, following raids on 16 residential and business premises. This was confirmed by Perak Immigration director Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik, who stated that the arrests were made in response to complaints and intelligence gathered at these locations.
The detainees include 49 men and five women, aged between 22 and 56 years. They are believed to originate from several countries, including Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. Currently, they are being held at the Ipoh Immigration Depot for further investigation and action.
According to Meor Hezbullah, the immigrants are being investigated under several provisions of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963. Specifically, they are being scrutinized under Section 6(1)(c) for being in the country without a valid pass, and under Section 15(1)(c) for overstaying their visas. Additionally, they are being investigated under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating the conditions of their passes.
Meor Hezbullah also highlighted the department's firm stance on dealing with those who employ or harbor illegal immigrants. He emphasized that stern action would be taken against such individuals or entities, reiterating the department’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws. Furthermore, he urged the public to report any such activities to the immigration authorities, stressing the importance of community cooperation in curbing illegal immigration.
The director's statement underscores the ongoing efforts by the Perak Immigration Department to address illegal immigration through diligent enforcement and community collaboration. This operation is part of a broader strategy to uphold the integrity of the country's immigration system and ensure that all individuals residing in Malaysia are doing so legally. By maintaining rigorous checks and responding promptly to intelligence, the department aims to mitigate the challenges posed by illegal immigration and safeguard national security.
