In a major irregularity that has come to light in two villages in the district, non-cultivable government land was allegedly falsely shown as cultivable and registered on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora (MFMB) portal.

The district administration has suspended the sarpanches of Shambli and Ampur villages. They allegedly provided OTPs for registering non-cultivable land—belonging to cremation grounds, schools and grazing areas—before selling the produce in grain markets for financial gain.

The suspended sarpanches are Yudhvir of Ampur and Kiranpal Kaur of Shambli.

Confirming the suspension, Dr Anand Kumar Sharma said movable and immovable assets of the panchayats must be handed over to the majority-elected panch of both villages.

He said complaints had arisen that both sarpanches had misused their positions by registering non-cultivable land in the names of private persons, prompting an inquiry. The complaints stated that crops were shown on government land and sold in mandis at minimum support price (MSP).

Investigations confirmed the allegations, after which they were suspended, he added.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised that the inquiry will be conducted transparently and assured further action against those found guilty.
