THE country’s crime trend has dropped by 29.75 percent from July to September this year, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday.
The 7,233 cases reported during that period were fewer than last year’s 10,296, the PNP said.
Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., the PNP chief, attributes the drop to the PNP’s continued evolution.
The PNP will now focus on improving patrols and increasing police visibility, Nartatez said during a press briefing at Camp Crame on Monday.
He also highlighted the need to intensify the fight against loose firearms, illegal drugs and terrorism, factors, which he said drive up the crime rate.
“We are accounting for all of those and establishing procedures to improve that process,” Nartatez said. Izel Abanilla
