PNP seeks stronger ties with Visayas mayors on peace, public safety

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) called for closer coordination with local chief executives in the Visayas to strengthen community-based efforts against crime and other threats to public safety.

PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between local government units and police forces in addressing security challenges at the grassroots level.

“Our partnership with local government units remains vital in keeping communities safe and peaceful,” Nartatez said in a statement.

“We ask our mayors to continue working closely with the PNP by sharing information, supporting crime prevention programs, and helping address local peace and order concerns so we can respond more effectively to the needs of our communities,” he added.

Nartatez met with municipal mayors from across the Visayas during the 2026 Visayas Island Cluster Conference of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) at Royce Hotel and Casino on September 30 to discuss local governance and community development concerns.

The conference gathered municipal leaders from across the Visayas and served as a venue for discussions on local governance and development.

Among those present were Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Liga ng mga Barangay President Mayor Faustino “Inno” Dy, LMP officers, and Senator JV Ejercito.

Following the discussions, Nartatez directed Police Regional Offices in the Visayas to strengthen coordination with municipal governments. He also ordered regular consultations between local police chiefs and mayors to ensure that peace and order concerns are immediately addressed and acted upon.

“We hope our mayors will continue strengthening local peace and order mechanisms and support community-based public safety initiatives. In return, the PNP commits to maintaining a strong police presence, improving coordination with local governments, and ensuring faster and more responsive police services for the people,” he said.
