Cristiano Ronaldo’s long wait to score a goal in the knockout stages of the World Cup is finally over after he scored against Croatia.
Ronaldo was given the chance to level the game from the penalty spot moments after he had a goal ruled out for being marginally offside.
However, he was finally given his chance when Renato Veiga was pulled down by Nikola Vlasic in the penalty box, allowing the 41-year-old to step up from the spot.

Cristiano Ronaldo finally ends wait for World Cup knockout goal
After Ronaldo became the oldest outfield player in a World Cup knockout game, the next aim was to finally grab that goal.
In the six tournaments he has competed in, the 41-year-old has never scored beyond the group stages.
Before kick-off, all the talk was around the Al Nassr forward’s future after Ronaldo’s sister hinted that retirement is just around the corner.
The forward hasn’t said anything about it himself, but more on his future is expected to come out over the next few weeks.
Throughout the tournament Ronaldo has come under fire for his performances, with many believing that he should’ve been dropped by manager Roberto Martinez.
