- Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Portugal thrashed Uzbekistan 5-0 at the World Cup on Tuesday.
- Ronaldo was heavily criticised for his performance in Portugal’s 1-1 draw with DR Congo last week, and was under pressure after his great rival Lionel Messi scored five goals in his first two games at this year’s tournament.
- But Ronaldo fired home a half-volley inside six minutes to become the first player to score in six different World Cups, and then found the net again in the 39th minute to make it 3-0 after a Nuno Mendes free-kick had doubled Portugal’s lead.
- An own goal from Abduvohid Nematov made it 4-0 before Rafael Leao netted his side’s fifth goal late on.
- Portugal will face Colombia in their final group match on Saturday night as they look to seal top spot.
