Kota Kinabalu: Authorities remain on high alert as they continue to monitor Tanjung Aru following the shooting of a crocodile by Sabah Wildlife Department personnel at 2pm on Sunday.
Sabah Wildlife Department Director Mohd Soffian Abu Bakar said the reptile was sighted in the area earlier in the day, prompting immediate action by wildlife officers to eliminate the potential threat.
However, as of 3pm Monday, the carcass has yet to be located.
“Personnel from the Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Wildlife Department are still monitoring and inspecting the area,” he said, adding the search will continue until the carcass is found.
The department confirmed that two shots were fired at Beach 1 and Beach 3 during the operation.
The sighting has raised concerns among locals and visitors to Tanjung Aru, a popular beachside destination.
Authorities have advised the public to remain cautious and avoid the water until the situation is fully resolved.
