KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition MPs who signed a confidence and supply agreement (CSA) with the government will receive their constituency allocations after Parliament approves the 2027 Supply Bill.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Bill was still being debated and was expected to be passed before the end of the year.
“We can disburse the allocations immediately once Parliament approves the Bill,” he told reporters after Friday prayers here today.
The CSA was signed yesterday by 13 MPs, comprising six Bersatu lawmakers, Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and six independent MPs who had previously pledged their support for Anwar.
Anwar said the CSA was not a new arrangement, but one that had previously been practised by the former government.
He said it was based on the same principles applied when he was Opposition Leader under former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, when constituency allocations were also negotiated between the government and opposition.
“There is nothing unusual about this. I have said before that there was an understanding, and we have agreed to it.
“Despite claims that we are blocking allocations, that is not the case. Parliamentary allocations continue as usual, for both government and opposition MPs,” he said.
Anwar also said the agreement was open to any other party willing to accept the same terms, adding that it did not impose specific conditions on individual opposition MPs.
“Political interpretations are not something we can dispute.
“They will naturally arise, but I want to stress that this is not unusual. Such agreements exist in many democratic countries,” he said.
