No Raya bonus for civil servants, and no extra holiday for Malaysians on the 3rd day of Raya (April 12th, Friday). These have been confirmed by PM Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim as of today.

While many Malaysians can “grant” themselves an extra day of holiday by utilising their annual leaves, Cuepacs, the umbrella body for the civil servants union agreed with Anwar for the lack of extra holiday on Friday the 12th. To Cuepacs, it’s all about work productivity, according to a report.

“Civil servants are already enjoying too many holidays. Productivity will be affected if April 12th is a holiday.”

What about WFH on Friday the 12th as a leniency? According to Cuepacs, it’s not a good idea as workers are more likely to celebrate at home instead of having their thoughts focused on work.

Cuepacs also elaborated further on the spirit of working and reminded the civil servants about their identities.

“We need to remember. We’re the government departments and we are liasing with other parties. Productivity will be affected if there is too many holidays.”

Cuepacs agreed with the PM who is not giving an additional day of holiday on the 3rd day of Raya, which is in line with the government’s aspiration for work productivity.

Do you think civil servants and other Malaysian workers should get an additional holiday to “let off some steam”?
