Tokyo Disneyland and Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in Osaka are both theme parks run by separate movie studios owned by two different companies. Universal Studios is owned by the media conglomerate NBC Universal which is a part of Comcast. The Walt Disney Company owns Disneyland along with Disney studios, media networks, products and resorts. As such, the two theme park resorts are direct competitors.
Both are similar in many ways as fantastic vacation destination! First and foremost, they’re both world-class theme park resorts that attract guests from all over the world. They each have a wide array of rides and attractions that appeal to any age group and sensibility. Both parks have something for everyone. Even when it comes to the cost of theme park tickets, both have some similarities. But like all competitions, it’s what on the inside offering that counts.
In Japan, the size of Tokyo Disneyland covers 113 acres whereas USJ Osaka has 133 acres. Tokyo Disneyland has always been regarded as the ultimate destination for family vacations. That said, USJ can certainly hold its own and may have a slight edge with teens and thrill-seeking adults because it claims a higher percentage of fast-paced rides.
These two theme parks have completely different histories. Disneyland vacations tend to evoke nostalgia. As children, many of us watch Disney films and know all about Mickey and Minnie Mouse. So as we grow older, it’s no surprise when we have a nostalgic feeling about Disney themes. That’s why Disney is going to feel more nostalgic than USJ. Even if you’ve never been, it will still feel more nostalgic right from the get-go. For adults, going to Disneyland brings back a lot of memories. USJ is more about adventurous movie like the Harry Porter, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Spider-Man which are appealing to teens.
You bring your family to visit Tokyo Disneyland then you feel more obligated to take them visit USJ also. Ultimately in the final analysis from the visitors analysis, the perfect competition between the two world-class theme parks providers benefited the customers.
