
PAPAR: A 22-year-old cyclist died on the spot after being hit by a motorcycle along Km5, Jalan Baru Papar-Kota Kinabalu, Saturday.
District Police Chief Supt Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said the 9.30pm incident happened when the victim was crossing a road heading toward Sri Tanjung, Kampung Pengalat Kecil.
“The motorcyclist, 29, failed to avoid the cyclist in time and crashed the rear side of the victim. The victim was thrown to the road shoulder by the impact.
“The cyclist succumbed to serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Papar Hospital medical officer” he said in a statement.
The motorcyclist – who sustained injuries to the head and face – was rushed to Papar Hospital for further treatment while the deceased was brought to the Forensic Unit for post-mortem.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
