Cyclist fined £1,200 after sending ‘bad driver’ video to police

A cyclist who reported a case of bad driving was ordered to pay more than £1,200 in fines and court costs after his video submission instead exposed his own mistakes.

The footage, which the cyclist submitted to demonstrate that a car was passing too close to his bike, instead proved that he himself was riding “without due care and attention”.

“Rather than slow down or have to unclip from his pedals, the rider chose to travel between the parked car and the vehicle heading directly towards him. This distance was significantly less than the car he reported earlier had given him. The driver was forced to hug the kerb,” West Yorkshire Police said in a social media post on Friday (24 July).

Authorities said the rider was dealt with by magistrates in Bradford.
