Kota Kinabalu: Sabah DAP Secretary Vivian Wong said inter-generational cooperation is essential for the party’s continued growth and ability to deliver progress to Sabahans.

She said unity and conviction will be crucial to securing victory in the coming state election.

She paid tribute to the party’s founding members and senior leaders, acknowledging that Sabah DAP’s current strength and credibility rest on their sacrifices and groundwork.

“Politics is not a solo race, it is a relay that demands teamwork and collective effort.

“Each generation must pass the baton forward. Only through this continuity can we achieve greater wins for the people,” she said.

She said every generation carries its own mission, namely, the pioneers laid the groundwork and set direction, while today’s leaders must advance the party’s ideals and service, a principle repeatedly highlighted by DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke.

Vivian voiced her appreciation for party veterans whose perseverance opened doors for younger members to serve today.

She said generational transition is not about replacement, but renewal, bridging experience with fresh ideas, and idealism with pragmatism.

Senior figures like Datuk Chan Foong Hin, she noted, continue to mentor the next wave of the Sabah DAP leaders.

“In the DAP, no one is bigger than the party. Senior or junior, everyone contributes to this movement’s strength,” she said.

“The DAP does not belong to any one person. It belongs to all who stand for democracy, justice and diversity,” she said.

“Politics is a marathon. Everyone walks their own path. We honour their contributions,” she said.

She said what truly inspired her was the loyalty of those who remained steadfast through difficulties.

Vivian also commended Sabah DAP Chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe for his leadership and commitment as one of the youngest ministers in the State Government.

Looking ahead to the state election, Vivian urged focus on unity, trust, and action.

“We must stay united, strengthen our foundation, and earn public confidence through service. Let us not be distracted, let us build a fairer, better Sabah together,” she said.
