KUALA LUMPUR: The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has pledged to “rebuild and move forward” after accepting the electorate’s verdict in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election, following a heavy defeat that saw its secretary-general, Anthony Loke lose his seat.
In a statement today, DAP national chairman Gobind Singh Deo said the party expressed “full humility” over the outcome, extending gratitude to voters, candidates, and party workers.
“We also acknowledge the defeat of our secretary-general, Anthony Loke, in Chennah after a closely fought contest. Loke has served both the party and the people with distinction over many years, and we are certain he will continue to do so,” said Gobind.
“The DAP has faced setbacks before. The message from the electorate is clear. We must and will undertake a thorough assessment of the outcome, listen carefully to the concerns of the people, and work hard to regain their confidence and support.”
DAP also congratulated the newly elected administration, expressing hope that it would govern responsibly and prioritise public interest.
The political landscape in Negeri Sembilan has shifted significantly following the election results. Barisan Nasional (BN) emerged as the largest bloc, securing 18 seats, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) won 11 and Perikatan Nasional (PN) captured seven. This is Pakatan Harapan’s third consecutive electoral defeat after Sabah and Johor.
Juasseh assemblyman Datuk Ismail Lasim was officially sworn in as the new Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
Ismail, 67, took his oath of office before the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, during a ceremony at Istana Besar Seri Menanti in Kuala Pilah this morning.
Ismail secured the Juasseh seat with a majority of 4,091 votes, garnering 6,907 votes in a three-cornered contest. He defeated Bersatu’s Mohd Zuhaimi Md Yusof, who received 506 votes, and PH’s Mohd Aidil Abdullah, who obtained 2,816 votes.
