SHAH ALAM - Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari claimed Pakatan Harapan (PH), especially DAP, had grown increasingly concerned over the prospect of 'penyatuan ummah' (ummah unity) influencing the Negeri Sembilan state election (PRN).
The Pasir Mas MP said both parties feared that if voters backed the unity agenda at the ballot box, they would lose the election.
He also claimed DAP had seen declining support among Chinese voters since the Sabah and Johor elections, adding that Negeri Sembilan could witness a similar trend.
"This situation is already enough to worry DAP. Even its traditional strongholds may no longer be secure.
"With the formation of the 'penyatuan ummah' coalition, the wave of rejection against DAP is growing stronger," he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
On July 16, Perikatan Nasional (PN) announced that it would contest 11 state seats in the Negeri Sembilan state election, scheduled for Aug 1.
The announcement was made by PN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar during the coalition's candidate announcement ceremony at Kompas Kampung Ismail in Seremban.
Of the 11 seats, Pas will contest five, Parti Wawasan Rakyat (Wawasan) four, Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) one, and the Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP) one.
At the same event, Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the coalition had completed the "puzzle" involving seats not contested by Barisan Nasional (BN), which will field candidates in 25 state constituencies.
Ahmad Fadhli described PN's target of winning 23 seats as realistic, saying the projection was based on several factors, including the 14 seats won by Umno in the previous state election, three Pas-held seats, and two constituencies — Gemenceh and Gemas — where he believed BN and PN had strong chances of victory.
This would bring the coalition's projected tally to 19 seats, he said.
He added that four other seats remained competitive and could be won by either BN or PN due to their sizeable Malay-majority electorate. These include Klawang and Sikamat, which will be contested by Wawasan, Ampangan by PAS, and Pilah by Umno.
"Winning 23 seats is a realistic target. This should also not be linked to any impact on MCA, as the Johor state election showed that MCA doubled the number of seats it won," he said.
Ahmad Fadhli further claimed DAP was concerned about the 'penyatuan ummah' movement and had attempted to weaken it through what he described as misleading narratives.
He also accused DAP of spreading slander by portraying the initiative as racist.
"They know these are merely false accusations. They are creating fear while fuelling Islamophobia among non-Muslims to distance them from the 'penyatuan ummah' agenda.
"That is DAP's true nature. The people of Negeri Sembilan will not be deceived by such slander. This initiative has received support from the people of Negeri Sembilan and will become a powerful force to defeat PH," he said.
