Finding love is a scary thing. What if you meet someone and, on paper, he's everything you want, only to find out he's a complete psycho who lied about your pet dying? (I’ve heard stories.)

I blame rom-coms. We all hope to have that magical meet-cute moment and have this electrifying romance, but no one talks about how hard it is to meet someone in person and build a connection.

Dating apps like Tinder, Coffee Meets Bagel (CMB), and Bumble are quite popular in Malaysia. You curate the perfect profile, use your best pictures and interests, and the endless swiping begins.

Being on a dating app can feel incredibly vulnerable. You're putting yourself out there to be judged based on your looks and interests. Honestly, it can feel more like applying for a job than finding a relationship.

After a while, the constant swiping and string of failed dates can be exhausting and emotionally draining. You start chatting with someone who seems nice, then you realise he’s only looking for a “good time.”

A friend of mine was in the car with a guy, everything was going fine till he started making some ‘moves’. She never spoke to him again.

While swiping through Bumble, I noticed some users are upfront about seeking "intimacy without commitment," which is fair, but at the same time, they also mention wanting something long-term. So, which is it?

There are others that are genuinely looking for long-term relationships, and yes, there are success stories.

Still, many swipe through these apps in hopes they’ll meet their soulmate. But how much swiping can one do before it starts to feel meaningless?

Opening yourself up to love and mismatched intentions can eventually lead to emotional burnout and disappointment.

So, are dating apps helping people find love, or are they just games we play to pass the time?
