KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) is actively monitoring crocodile presence in city waters through its Crocodile Threat Management Committee.

Led by Mayor Dato’ Sri Dr. Sabin Samitah, the committee includes agencies such as the Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force, and the Wildlife Department.

Since its establishment on January 30, 2024, two monitoring operations have been conducted.

The first, from February 29 to March 1, focused on Sungai Darau and Sungai Kalansanan. The second, held on August 19–20, followed reports of crocodiles near Tanjung Lipat beach.

Future operations will be conducted quarterly, with warning signs installed in identified hotspots. CCTV surveillance is also planned.
