Former Umno youth chief, Khairy Jamaluddin said despite his recent defeat in the PKR elections, Rafizi Ramli should not leave the party nor step down from his position as Economy Minister saying many are also appointed to ministerial roles based on their capabilities when they don’t hold any influence within the party.
In this instance, no one pressured or force Rafizi to resign.
It was Rafizi himself who said he will quit as economy minister if he fails to defend his post in the PKR election.
Now that he has lost and if he continued to stay on, he will be labelled dishonest and have no integrity.
His opponents, assuming he is still nominated to contest in the next General election would definitely be going to town with his dishonesty in continuing in his post in the Cabinet.
To most politicians, it is understandable if they don’t know how to spell let alone understand the word `integrity’.
Probably a lot of them haven’t even heard of this word in their entire life.
Or probably they misheard the word `integrity’ to `in my kitty’ which explains why corruption amongst the politicians are on the upswing in the last few decades.
Honesty and integrity in politicians are extremely important to voters.
It is in fact valued above all other traits in a politician.
What was missing and dead in this country are politicians should have been honest, owned up when they make mistakes and getting things done.
Do not bat away critics who cried for reforms promised by saying they are focused on delivering the people’s priorities.
Year in year out, the ordinary rakyat heard politicians make promises they can’t or won’t deliver.
Already within and amongst themselves, politicians accuse one another of lying on a regular basis and media stories frequently portray politicians as promise-breakers.
The ordinary rakyat are now well versed and thoroughly aware that party manifestos are empty and meaningless documents.
Talk is cheap for every single politician in this country.
For a change, the follow through by Rafizi on his promise is seen as trustworthy and reliable by the public, demonstrating strong ethical conduct and acting consistently with his stated values.
Aside from putting pressure on his opponent who challenged him successfully for her to deliver on her promises, this obviously gained Rafizi a lot of support from the general public for demonstrating that rare trait missing from all the present crop of politicians in this country.
Honesty.
Let's see whether Nurul who, similarly made some promises in her campaign for the Deputy President's post. display the same level of honesty and fulfill her campaign promises as shown by the person she defeated.
