KUALA LUMPUR – Former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has made it clear he has no intention of accepting any senior party post following his defeat in the recent party polls.

Speaking to reporters after officiating the Karnival Belia Madani 2.0 in Pandan on Sunday, the Pandan MP said he will continue serving as an ordinary member and has no interest in titles or positions offered by any political party, Astro Awani reported.

“I have stated from the beginning that I won’t accept any offer of position. Even when Nurul Izzah (Anwar) met me, there was an attempt to appoint a deputy president.

“But even if a deputy or a president is appointed, I am not interested, because it’s not about the position — it’s about the struggle we want to carry,” he was quoted as saying.

“I will remain a member and my responsibilities remain as they were before,” Rafizi added.

His remarks come on the heels of the PKR national leadership elections held alongside the party’s 2025 National Congress in Johor Bahru, where he was defeated by former Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah.

She secured 9,803 votes compared to Rafizi’s 3,866, officially reclaiming the deputy president post.

Asked about his political direction moving forward, Rafizi said his future plans would remain independent of any particular political figure or party.

“My plans moving forward have nothing to do with Tengku Zafrul, PKR, Umno, or the Unity Government. That’s my right as an MP and grassroots leader. If you had a grassroots leader from Sabak Bernam, for instance, you wouldn’t be asking about their plans, would you?” he said.

The leadership shake-up also saw other senior PKR figures losing their seats, including Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who failed to retain one of the four PKR vice-president slots.

The official results were announced by Central Election Committee chair Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa during the PKR National Congress held at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre. - June 1, 2025
