Marc Marquez already signed a new Ducati contract through 2028, even though it hasn’t been confirmed because the five factories are still working out details with MotoGP.

The Spaniard’s future in Borgo Panigale has been a major topic this year, as he is due to be out of contract after the 2026 season. Marquez has also endured a difficult time in 2026, having entered the year while still recovering from his surgery on a shoulder injury.

Only now, after a four-week break without racing, does Marquez appear confident about his fitness levels. The 33-year-old said on Thursday at Jerez that he thinks he is in a “good way to perform” at the Spanish GP, having yet to take a single Grand Prix podium so far this year.

Marquez’s recovery from the shoulder injury he suffered last October has also fuelled claims that he has been considering retiring at the end of 2026. It has even been said that Marquez has pushed Ducati for a 1+1-year contract in case they struggle under the new regulations coming into effect in 2027.

Why is Ducati delaying Marc Marquez’s contract announcement?

Marc Marquez has already put pen to paper on a new deal with Ducati that keeps him in place for the 2027 and 2028 MotoGP seasons, according to AS. It’s understood that he actually signed the extension back in early February during pre-season testing at Sepang.

Ducati haven’t confirmed it publicly yet, even though they have every right to do so. The hold-up is linked to ongoing talks between all five manufacturers and MotoGP about the commercial agreements covering the next five years, starting from 2027.

Aprilia, Honda and Yamaha are so far the only teams with confirmed riders for 2027. Marco Bezzecchi extended with Aprilia through 2028 back in February, while Johann Zarco and Diogo Moreira have been secured by Honda. Toprak Razgatlioglu is set to stay with Yamaha.

Marquez is among those whose contracts are signed but not yet announced, joining names like Pedro Acosta, who is expected to become his teammate at Ducati from next year.
