Defending champions Tang Jie-Ee Wei withdraw from world championships as Ee Wei continues knee rehab after ACL surgery.

DEFENDING mixed doubles champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have withdrawn from the 2026 BWF World Championships, scheduled to be held in New Delhi, from Aug 17 to 23.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed the withdrawal in a statement today, saying Ee Wei is continuing her rehabilitation following knee surgery after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury to her left knee during the pair’s quarterfinal match at the 2026 Singapore Open in May.

“The decision was made based on medical advice, with Ee Wei’s long-term recovery remaining the priority,” the statement said.

BAM also revealed that it has submitted an application to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to protect Ee Wei’s world ranking while she undergoes rehabilitation.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei created history in Paris last year by becoming the first Malaysian mixed doubles pair to capture the world title.
