The Delhi Government will hold a high-level meeting on Tuesday to discuss the ongoing O-Zone issue and the concerns arising from demolition action in Yamuna floodplain areas, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta set to review the matter along with senior officials and BJP leaders.

The meeting comes amid growing anxiety among residents of colonies located in the O-Zone, a designated river and floodplain zone along the Yamuna that is subject to environmental and land-use restrictions. According to the Delhi BJP, nearly 15 lakh people are affected by the issue.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said the chief minister has convened a detailed meeting with concerned officials to explore a solution. Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra and party MPs are also expected to attend.

The development follows a meeting between BJP MPs Manoj Tiwari and Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Monday evening, during which the MPs urged the LG to intervene and seek a halt to the ongoing demolition activities in the affected areas.

The O-Zone, extending along the Yamuna floodplain from Wazirabad to Okhla, is considered environmentally important as it functions as a flood buffer and groundwater recharge zone. However, several residential colonies have come up within the area over the years, leading to disputes over development and habitation rights.

The outcome of Tuesday’s meeting is expected to be closely watched by residents facing uncertainty over the future of their homes.
