The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has completed around 70 per cent of desilting work in storm water drains across the city ahead of the monsoon, officials said on Tuesday.

The extensive desilting drive, being carried out under the directions of L-G Taranjit Singh Sandhu, aims to ensure smooth drainage of rainwater, prevent waterlogging, reduce traffic disruptions and improve public hygiene during the monsoon.

According to officials, the DDA is desilting nearly 69 km of storm water drains in Narela and 192 km in Dwarka. The exercise involves removing accumulated silt, debris, vegetation and other obstructions that impede the free flow of rainwater.

The L-G, who has been personally monitoring desilting operations undertaken by various agencies in the Capital, has directed officials to complete the remaining work by June 15, before the onset of the monsoon. Officials said the desilting exercise was initiated well in advance to strengthen the city’s preparedness for heavy rainfall.
