Delhi CM Rekha Gupta has sanctioned an ex-gratia assistance of Rs 5 lakh for Rohit Mukhiya, who suffered serious injuries while rescuing fellow workers during a fire at a BnB establishment in Malviya Nagar earlier this month.
The Delhi Government will also bear the entire cost of Rohit’s medical treatment until his recovery. A cheque of Rs 5 lakh was handed over to his family by the District Magistrate on the Chief Minister’s directions. Gupta praised his courage and selflessness, calling his actions an inspiration. She assured him and his family of the government’s support and directed officials and doctors to ensure he receives the best possible treatment.
Rohit, a resident of Khirki Extension, was working in the kitchen of a restaurant in Hauz Rani when a major fire broke out on June 3. According to the government, he rushed to the first floor to rescue two colleagues from his village who were trapped inside the building.
As flames and smoke engulfed the premises, the three took shelter in a room. With no safe exit available, Rohit broke a window with a bucket to create an escape route.
He ensured his colleagues escaped first and jumped only after they were safe.
Rohit sustained severe injuries during the rescue. The Chief Minister said his bravery, compassion and sense of duty reflected exceptional character and deserved recognition and support.
