Delhi’s public healthcare system received a major boost after two leading government hospitals — Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital and Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital — secured certification under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) framework of the Government of India.
LNJP Hospital scored 95.89 per cent, while Pt Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital achieved 96.72 per cent in the national quality assessment, reflecting improvements in healthcare delivery, patient care and hospital infrastructure.
The certification followed assessments across several healthcare domains, including OPD services, ICU facilities, blood bank, labour room, radiology, laboratories, emergency care and maternal health services, along with other clinical and support departments.
The achievement is being seen as a major milestone for Delhi’s public healthcare system and aligns with the Delhi Government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve patient-centric services across the capital. Under the leadership of CM Rekha Gupta, the government has focused on improving quality standards, cleanliness, medical infrastructure and accessibility in government hospitals.
Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said, “This national recognition is a testament to our continuous efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure quality, patient-centric services in Delhi’s government hospitals.”
The minister added, “Unlike the previous government, we believe in work, not empty promises. For years, Delhi’s healthcare system suffered due to lack of vision, accountability and meaningful reforms. Under the Kayakalp initiative, special emphasis is being laid on cleanliness and hygiene across all Delhi Government hospitals. In the coming period, 14 MRI machines and more than 25 ultrasound machines will be installed in government hospitals.”
He said the expansion of MRI and ultrasound facilities would strengthen diagnostic services and reduce inconvenience for patients seeking timely treatment.
The NQAS certification reflects the government’s commitment to building a stronger and citizen-centric healthcare system with improved infrastructure, better hygiene standards and accessible treatment facilities.
The development also reinforces Delhi’s broader vision of “Swasth Delhi, Sashakt Delhi”, aimed at ensuring world-class healthcare services within the public health system.
